WAYNE ARNOLD
Gallery
Wayne Arnold was an oval and figure 8 racing legend at the Indianapolis Speedrome for 4 generations, but really came to prominence during the 1970's and 1980's when he won more features than anyone else.  Wayne was inducted into the Speedrome Hall of Fame in 1995.

Wayne teamed with Hall of Fame  car builder and crew chief Bob Clark as well well as legendary engine builder Fred Embree and car owner Charlie Milam to present one of the most formidable racing teams in Speedrome history.

The son of colorful Speedrome hall of famer, Billy Arnold, Wayne competed with his father for many years before Billy's retirement in the 1980's.

Wayne competed in stocks, pro-stocks, modifieds, midgets, late models and outlaw late models winning many features in everything that he tried.  But he is most known for his dominance on the figure 8 course.  His exciting battles with Kenny St. John did for the Speedrome what Magic Johnson and Larry Bird did for the NBA.  Speedrome fans were either St. John fans or Arnold fans, there was little middle-ground.

Wayne has the honor of having the most successful year of any driver in Speedrome history during the 1983 campaign.  Not only was he the track champion, but he also set the pole for the World Figure 8 Championship on his way to the first of his 3 victories in the prestigeous event.  During 1983 Wayne won a record 13 oval features and 23 figure 8 features.  He also was so dominant that he had winning streaks of 4 and 5 figure 8 races during that incredible season. The orange corvette was truly dominant!
