Kenny St. John began his racing careeer at the young age of 18 and would eventually retire at the tender young age of 35. During those 17 years he would amass one of the most successful racing careeers in Indiana short track history.
But when you say the name St. John around the Indianapolis Speedrome you not only think of a great racing family with generations of wins at the Southeast side track, but also legendary stories of a brash and colorful set of brothers. Kenny and Mike St. John.
It is estimated that Kenny won nearly 200 features at over 25 race tracks across the United States. Many of those wins came at the historic Indianaplis Speedrome, Winchester Speedway, and Anderson Speedway. Kenny once held the world 1/4 mile stock car record at the high banks of Anderson before it was broken by future car owner C.J. Rayburn.
Always friendly, brash and colorful Kenny dominated the figure 8 racing scene in the late 70's and early 1980's by winning an unprescedented 5 consecutive World Figure 8 Championships. He once set the pole for WF8 qualifying, went home to take a nap and then learned to his dismay that rival Wayne Arnold took the pole. He simply drove back to the track and on his first and last attempt set the pole and a track record.
Kenny St. John retired young and never looked back. In 2006 he came back as a car owner and won the WF8 for the first time as an owner.
