| Kenny Branham passed away Wednesday February 8, 2007 at the age of 66 in his home just outside of Tell City, Indiana. A United States Army veteran, Kenny leaves behind 5 children; Kristen, Darla, Kevin, Kenny Jr. and Suzie. He also leaves behind a sister, Betty Ward. Kenny was preceded in death by his 2nd wife Sue Branham, his mother Addie Pearl, his father Bedford and brother Bill. Two step daughters; Tanzi Powers and Lisa Keller. Born in Burkesville, Kentucky Kenny and his family moved north in 1953 and settled on the southside of Indianapolis. Kenny and wife Sue worked at Hoosier Gasket for a number of years before he began to practice as an electrician and eventually opened up his own business as Branham Electric. After his wife's passing in 2000 he re-married and moved to Tell City with his new wife Bernita until his recent passing. For more than three decades, Kenny was well known in the local stock car racing community as both a driver and Track Official at the historic Indianapolis Speedrome. Always racing on a shoe-string budget, he had the competitive fire that drove him to many wins during his racing career. |
| Not too long after John Stiles bought the Indianapolis Speedrome he hired Kenny to work in a variety of capacities at the race track, eventually leading to the Chief Official position. It was in this position that he would form a legacy and would make a lasting impact on the Speedrome as he was ultimately charged with maintaining fairness and order in an environment that often challenged the same. A track official is not a position designed to make a lot of friends, but somehow he made many. Kenny had a reputation of being fair and reasonable and was consequently well respected by his peers. There is no doubt that Kenny was always proud to have been a part of the Speedrome racing community...he was also grateful for the many friends and associations he formed over the many years as a Southside resident ...We are all saddened to hear of the passing of Kenny Branham. As time passes our wounds will heel and the hurt we feel today will subside...eventually what will be left is our fond memories of days gone by and of a man that we are proud to call family and friend! Gods speed Kenny!! |
